Uttar Pradesh are the Ranji Trophy champions

Uttar Pradesh won the Ranji Trophy for the first time, beating Bengal in the final of India's premier domestic cricket tournament. UP won on a slender first innings lead after being dismissed for 342 and setting Bengal a fairly easy target of 357 to get at around 12 runs an over, no patch on Pakistan challenging India to score 607 at a meagre 3.75 runs an over.

Mohammad Kaif played a significant role in the triumph, as batsman (with scores of 92 and 109) and as captain. He is justifiably elated about the result and hopes that this would raise the profile of UP cricket.
