    Kambli has the last word

Michael Vaughan'sMichael Atherton's (thanks to Gana) narration of his chat with Vinod Kambli is very nice to read, if we ignore the poor translation of Hindi words/names! Athers ends thus
Despite my promptings Kambli shows no trace of envy towards his old friend. After all, he says, it took Tendulkar six years longer to a get a Test match double hundred.
Of course, it had the mandatory references to the Harris Shield match where he and Tendulkar put on a mere 664 runs.

It made me wonder about how such a talent (minus the ability against short pitched bowling!) could fade away, just like that. All it took was one series to show up his shortcomings. He tried to make a few comebacks, banking on his ability in one-dayers, but it didn't quite work out, as the likes of Yuvraj, Sehwag and Kaif made strong statements with their performances.

Would he perhaps have fitted in a more relaxed dressing room, as is apparently the case nowadays? Then again, the increased focus on fitness and discipline, which has already resulted in a major scalp, would have really stretched him to the limit.
