    Dhoni - #1

For someone who scored a duck on one-day debut and didn't make any sort of impression until last year at Vishakapatnam against Pakistan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has really made a huge impression on the progress made by the Indian team in one-day cricket.

His batting has meant that the batting order has become a lot more flexible and balanced. In addition, he has created an impact in test cricket too after his inclusion in the test side.

The ICC's latest rankings for one-day cricket reveal that he is the world's best batsman. Not a bad achievement for a wicket-keeper batsman who has batted only 27% of the time in the top order. Then again, given the way the Indian top order has batted in one-dayers in the recent past, he'd have got more than a fair share of opportunities to bat even when he batted below #6!
