Breaking/Brief news

    March 30, 2006

    Yawn. Another 100th test.

As reported early this month, quite a few players will be notching up 100 test matches. Murali and Dravid have already got there. Tomorrow, Justin Langer plays his 100th test, all of them for Australia.

Breaking the monotony of 100 test matches is England's talisman, stand-in skipper, 2004 ODI player of the year and 2005 ICC Player of the Year (with Kallis), Andrew Flintoff. He plays his 100th one-day international tomorrow, but three of them were for a World XI.

Either it is a measure of how England rate one-day cricket, or he gets injured far too often. Flintoff made his one-day debut in April 1999. Virender Sehwag, who played one game in 1998, and only came back in 2001, has played 142. Yuvraj Singh, who debuted in 2000 and was dropped in his second season after his inability to decipher Murali, has played 143. Mohd. Kaif, who got picked only in 2002, has played 109, without being dropped a single time! Harbhajan Singh started like Sehwag and didn't re-appear until 2001. He's played 118 games.

Here's the fun bit - he is #11 on England's ODI caps list, and the second highest among those currently in action - Trescothick tops the list with 114.
