Ganguly in the side because of outside pressures?

Now, now, what's this I'm hearing about Ganguly being in the Indian team only because of "pressure" applied by Sharad Pawar? This report in Sydney Morning Herald credits AFP and Reuters for quoting an unnamed "team source" as saying that Raj Singh Dungarpur, the manager of the Indian, was "under instructions" from BCCI to convince the captain and coach to include Ganguly in the playing eleven when they "did not want Ganguly to open and could not fit him in the middle order without disturbing a trusted combination".

Although Chapell seemingly denied this in a post-day talk with the journalists where he disclosed Ganguly was picked with "experience and knowledge of the conditions" whilst also downplaying the "animated discussion" between him self, Dravid and Ganguly just before the toss as simply a cricket talk, something that they "normally do". " I don't know where these stories emerge from," he added for good measure.

Nevertheless, Ganguly's selection will doubtless provoke much reaction in India, as would have his absence. To go with this, it isn't entirely certain where he'll bat. Geo's post match analysis show Score (hosted by Yahya Hussaini, with Javed Miandad as resident analyst) went every length to try and build up a picture of uneasiness between Ganguly and Dravid, claiming the two might be at odds with each other on who should open with Sehwag. All of which, even if they are nothing but baseless rumours, will please Inzi and co. no end.
