Schedule for England tour of India announced

After the ECB managed to arm-twist the BCCI into announcing the schedule for the England team's tour of India early this year, there was a lot of apprehension and wrangling over the schedule and choice of venues, possibly a result of issuing an ultimatum.

There were further twists when it became apparent that apparently Chennai should have hosted a test during the England series rather than be saddled with a wash-out in the rainy season while hosting Sri Lanka. The ECB apparently mulled about playing tour games in Pakistan as a snub to the BCCI for refusing to accede to their requests.

All is well that ends well though. The schedule is out. There are two tour games with the first one kicking off the tour on 18 February, a day before India's tour of Pakistan ends. The tests are scheduled to start on March 1, 9 and 18. The one-dayers are on March 28, March 31, April 3, April 6, April 9, April 12 and April 15.

Seven one-dayers is overkill for sure!

Update: On the way back home after posting this entry, I had a sneaking feeling that I'd screwed up. My fears were confirmed when I now checked the dateline on the schedule. It said December 8 2005. I will partly blame the Beeb though. They had a nice prominent link saying 'England tour dates' and I fell for it. I won't delete this post though. But it has been a total faux pas and this just means I need to be a lot more careful!
