    Imran v Kapil

The recently launched news Indian channel CNN-IBN had a wonderful program featuring the sub-continent's two great all-rounders, Imran Khan and Kapil Dev. The show did have its moments of irreverence, especially in the context of their popularity with women, night life etc. One of the enduring photos from World Series Cricket I saw in a book a long time ago was Imran wearing a t-shirt which proclaimed 'Big boys play at night'.

The news channel's coverage of the India-Pakistan series is under the banner 'LoC - Love of Cricket'. Couldn't they have got a better title? I think during India's last tour to Pakistan, one of the TV channels called its coverage by the same name LoC, except that LoC expanded to something else. This is cricket, not war. So can we please stop the stupid naming?

Kapil reminisced on his debut against Pakistan, Imran revealed that instead of motivating his players, he actually had to help them relax before India-Pakistan games, the two had their take on Tendulkar, Shoaib etc., the tough life of an all-rounder, the competition between the four all-rounders [Ed: I have never been convinced Hadlee was an all-rounder in the same class as the other three. In order of bowling ability, at the peak of their careers, the order would be Hadlee, Imran, Botham, Kapil. In terms of batting it would be Imran, Kapil & Botham tied, Hadlee] etc.

On the whole, quite enjoyable, which is a rare thing to say for a TV show featuring a chat with Kapil! :)

Enjoy the transcripts: part 1, part 2 and (thanks to Suneel) part 3.
