    It is Collingwood's turn now

Barely a week after Duncan Fletcher revealed in his chronicling of the Ashes that McGrath's pre-Ashes 5-0 taunt spurred England on, Paul Collingwood, who was part of the side at The Oval, has announced that England will aim for a 3-0 whitewash.

Reports that skipper Michael Vaughan choked on his sandwich are as yet unconfirmed.

One of the best aspects of the recent Ashes series is that those who made silly bravado filled comments soon wished they hadn't. At the start of the series Hoggard suggested that Warne and McGrath were too old and they topped the Aussie bowling averages. Giles was criticised after Lords and he then played a crucial part in England's fight back. McGrath publicly said that Australia would win 5-0 and that he'd have no problem dismissing Trescothick (scored 431 @ 43.10)

So I winced when I heard Collingwood's comments, but then as my mother told me, be wary of red heads.

I too was not impressed. However, Hoggard did have a point - he said he doubted McGrath and Warne would last the series. McGrath missed two Tests, so he gets partial mitigation.

Now if only our players could react to this in the same way as England did ...
