Graeme Hick will retire at the end of the season

Graeme Hick, who was part of Zimbabwe's 1983 World Cup squad, has announced that he will retire from county cricket at the end of this season. Commentators and fans in England will continue to tear their hair apart wondering why on earth he was a failure in tests, perhaps completely forgetting that he was (along with Fairbrother & Stewart) one of England's best ODI batsmen in the 1990s. Perhaps that gives you an indication of the lack of respect for the shorter form of the game.

In 2006, he had hinted that he could retire in 2007. In 2005, he scored his 127th first-class hundred, which took him past WG Grace. Remarkably, Worcestershire is the only county that he has played for!

Some trivia: In 1983/84, he played for Zimbabwe in series against visiting under-23 teams from India & West Indies. The Indian squad had Azharuddin, Maninder, Sidhu, Prabhakar, Srikkanth, L Sivaramakrishnan, Lalchand Rajput & Sadanand Viswanath with Shastri as the captain. The West Indies squad included Phil Simmons and Walsh.
