    Flogging the cricketers

In order to placate the ECB and avoid paying compensation for the forfeited test at The Oval in August, the Pakistan Cricket Board has suggested that a one-off one-day international be played next year and that the ECB could consider the proceeds from the game as compensation.

For starters, this is obviously a comedown from the PCB's original stand of "Hair caused the forfeit. We're not responsible". Secondly, why should the cricketers be made to play a meaningless one-off one-day international when it is highly likely that administrative goof ups were equally responsible for the no-show?

Would they let it be classed as a first-class match, not international? And maybe allow one of next season's county umpires to take the helm? I hear there's a handy Australian umpire available.

geoff: One-day games aren't first-class :) But yes, I'm sure they'd like that 'handy, big sized [physically ... and ego too?] Aussie umpire' to do the job. Btw I had a question for you. Can we discuss off-comments at cricket24x7@gmail.com?
