    Vaughany and Vaughan's knee

In a major scare for the visiting England team, skipper Michael Vaughan pulled out of the tour game against the Indian Board President's XI due to a recurrence of his knee problem which caused him to miss the Lahore test against Pakistan as well as the one-day series there. In 2004, Vaughan's knee injury ruled him out of the Lord's test against New Zealand and a bloke called Andrew Strauss had a fairly ok debut.

We should have known yesterday that there was a problem with Vaughan's knee. After all, Steve Harmison repeatedly mentioned Vaughan's knee yesterday in the pre-match press conference. He he kept saying 'Vaughany', emphasis mine!
As long as the team's doing well and even if I get only one wicket, I'm not bothered. I said that last year in the Ashes, and I got five wickets in the first Test but it meant nothing because we got beat. Then I got 12 wickets in the next four Tests and we won the Ashes. I was chuffed to bits. As long as we win I'm not bothered what wickets I get. If I can go up to Vaughany and say, look I've given you everything I've got, then that suits me.

I won't always bowl so well, but I try and go out and do my best. I do what the situation demands and what Vaughany requires of me. If it means containing, then I will contain and if it means going at somebody then I'll try and bring up as much energy as I can.
Evidently none of the journalists got the hint! What a scoop that'd have been!
