Vaughan ruled out of first test against Pakistan

Marcus Trescothick will lead England for the second time in test cricket after it was confirmed that Vaughan's knee hadn't healed in time to be fit for the first test against Pakistan at Multan. The game starts on Saturday. Vaughan's absence means that England will in likelihood pick Bell and Collingwood.

Trescothick's first test as captain was against New Zealand in 2004 at Lord's and coincidentally, Vaughan had a knee injury then as well. The game is more famous for Andrew Strauss making a century on debut. He was in fact all set for another in the second innings, only for Nasser Hussain to run him out. Vaughan did offer his commiserations. Hussain quit test cricket after the test.
