Everyone is queueing up to be India's cricket coach

Once it became public knowledge that Wright was quitting as coach of the Indian team, it was always going to be a case of several applicants for one post. Despite Greg Chappell's clarifications, he remains a front-runner because he has the skipper's backing. Yesterday, Dav Whatmore threw his hat into the ring when he talked to BBC Sport about the fact that he was interested in the job after his contract with Bangladesh expired at the end of the month.

Now Tom Moody, who had expressed interest in the England job earlier, says that Wright asked him, to borrow a phrase from Raj Singh Dungarpur, "Mian, coach banoge". It only gets murkier when you consider Moody's statement expressing interested in heading the ECB's National Academy!

Chandrahas Choudhury is left attempting to analyze the contenders and provide an answer.
