Darrell Hair refuses to act as sightscreen

Following a request from Fleming that to help counter Malinga, the umpires should wear lighter coloured trousers to ensure that the New Zealand batsmen can pick up the ball from the low trajectory at which he delivers, umpire Darrell Hair has rejected the option outright. He is categorical about the fact that it was upto the Kiwi batsmen to figure out the answers. Chris Cairns is praise for Malinga and wonders about why he has such an odd action.

Parore borders on questioning the action but tries to sugar it by saying that Malinga would be within the new ICC regulations. Does he mean he'd have been termed a chucker under the previous thresholds? I'd doubt it, considering he'd been playing international cricket for nearly four months before the new rules were announced. In fact the fifteen degree thingie only came into effect from last month. So it has been nearly nine months since Malinga made his debut and he wasnt reported even once. Sour grapes, eh Adam?
