ICC attempt to fool India with deadline for 2007 World Cup seedings

The ICC announced today that the ODI rankings as of 1st April 2005 would be used to determine the seedings for the 2007 World Cup. India do not have any one-dayers scheduled before the deadline with the first one-dayer scheduled for April 2nd. Nice bit of planning, eh? Perhaps it was just a coincidence?

So India must hope that there're no major changes to the table since currently their group opponents are scheduled to be New Zealand, Bangladesh and a qualifier from the ICC Trophy. The top two teams progress to the Super Eight stage which means barring a hopeless show against the minnows (and I include Bangladesh in this list, in spite of a one-day win against India and the test series win against Zimbabwe), India should go through. Super Eights. Must be so difficult picking the best eight teams out of sixteen, when eight of them cannot bowl, bat or field.

Last year, the WICB had announced the bases for some of the teams as well as the venues of the semi-finals and the final.
