Breaking/Brief news

Daryl Harper talks about the usage of technology during the recent ICC Champions Trophy. He makes an interesting point when he says that the incremental time taken by the third umpire/technology doesnt really matter too much in lengthening a seven hour game. But if the ICC wants to extend cricket to non-traditional cricket playing countries, like say China, it has to introduce a shorter form - whether it will be Twenty-20 or Cricket Max doesnt matter. In these games, which are supposed to only last 2-3 hours, the time spent in third umpire referrals as a percentage of the overall game length becomes much higher and could in fact end up driving players and spectators away from cricket. This is something the ICC needs to take into account. Perhaps there shouldnt be third umpire referrals etc. for tournaments organized for developing cricket countries. In fact I'd argue that any Twenty-20 international played in future must not have third umpires.
