Double century on birthday and two 5-fers

Ok here's one for the statisticians. How many players have scored their first test double-century on their birthday?

Jason Gillespie just did! He now has the third fourth highest test score in the current side, after Hayden's 380, Ponting's 257 and Gilchrist's 204*.

Meanwhile, Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini took all ten wickets between themselves to send New Zealand crashing to 120 all out in the Centurion test against South Africa after Stephen Fleming's smart move failed yesterday.

I seem to remember a certain ML Hayden scoring 380 a few years ago ?

yeah he scored that against a second rate team too.

Australia turn up in Bangladesh after a hard fought series victory over South Africa, including their epic victory in the 3rd test. 5 mins later they are playing on the sub continent against a minnow opponent. Ill prepared and with some complacency, Bangladesh had the better of them for a couple of days before sanity and the real Australian cricket team turned up and knocked them over.

Now that they have acclimatised to things with a bit of a wake up call....they are playing proper cricket again and the result is the true Bangladesh...a team that lets opposition tail enders scoring double hundreds.

No disrespect to Dizzy, scoring 200 at any level takes plenty of concentration and hard work, good on him but it must raise serious and obvious questions about the Tigers place in test cricket.

kurt: So is Hayden's 380 a poor effort, given the opposition's abilities?

Hayden's effort is respectable....nothing more nothing less. he scored it against 2nd rate opposition during a purple patch. Zimbabwe are not playing test cricket until 2007 for good reason...until Bangladesh came come up to the mark...neither should they
