Breaking/Brief news

    December 28, 2004

A superb century by Kallis put South Africa in control of the Durban test. South Africa made 332 in reply to England's pitiful 139 thanks to Kallis' 162, Pollock's 43 and valuable contributions by the tailenders who helped South Africa go from 118/6 to 332. England, trailing by 193 runs at the start of their second innings, finished on 30 without any loss. They will be concerned though about the fact that Ashley Giles is unlikely to play any further role in this test after he suffered back spasms while handling a barrage of short pitched bowling from South Africa's pace attack while batting.
