Cricket 24x7 - All the cricket

Breaking/Brief news

    December 22, 2004

If you read some of the headlines in the English newspapers following yesterday's win against South Africa, you'd tend to think that England had beaten Australia's record of 16 consecutive test wins. To put the overall achievement in perspective, they're not yet halfway there. Besides, they beat an ENGLISH record. I certainly would expect an English cricket team to beat an English record, wouldnt you? Its a bit like Kapil congratulating Kumble on taking his 435th wicket saying that he was glad that an Indian broke the record.

"The Independent" - England make history and Anatomy of a winning team.

"The Observer" - Strauss conducts England into record books and England's best of all time but Vaughan wants better.

"The Times" - England find eigth wonder and A great day for English cricket.

Only "The Telegraph" had some sane and less rhetorical headlines - Achievement to savour but real test lies ahead and England's waltz is conducted by Strauss.

The BBC wasnt that bad either - England continue winning habit.
