Mushtaq Ali passes away
If the likes of Virender Sehwag and Krishnamachari Srikkanth had any interest in the history of Indian cricket, they would have realized that they were merely carrying forward Syed Mushtaq Ali's legacy. Mushtaq Ali, who was India's oldest living test cricketer, died in his sleep on Saturday morning, aged 90.

Boria Majumdar, one of India's few historians who write about cricket, writes about how Ali became enamoured with cricket and how he would be remembered as the first o score a test century overseas for India.
The Wisden Almanack has a report on the 1936 test at Old Trafford where faced with a deficit of 368, Vijay Merchant and Mushtaq Ali put on 203 for the first wicket, with Ali cutting loose and confounding England with his unorthodox cricket. India drew an overseas test for the first time.
During his acceptance speech in July 2002 when he received a "Special Achievement" award from Wisden, he mentioned that a lot of people were asking him if he would go on to score a century, i.e. turn 100 years old. To that he replied that it all depended on the umpire. If he lifted his finger, he'd have to go!
