    The coach question

It increasingly looks like the BCCI have found an answer to the question mark which was hanging over the Indian cricket team ever since Greg Chappell decided to stop being coach of the team. Looks like, it would be Gary Kirsten, who has really tormented the Indian bowlers in the late 90s especially in the ODIs. Let's keep our fingers crossed until the official announcement is made and also hope that this coach doesn't turn Ford.

What worries me is that Kirsten barely meets many of BCCI's criteria.

He doesn't have extensive coaching experience. He was a consultant batting coach for barely a year. I don't particularly care about his comments in 1996/7 about seeing cows on the roads, etc.

Firstly, that situation is likely to recur in a lot of the test/odi playing centres even now. Secondly, if he's gone this far with his candidature, clearly either the cows don't bother him or there're no more cows.

I don't think Kirsten is the right choice, I feel it should have been Dav Watmore. He is good and available & we don't seem to want him.

I'd say Kirsten has done pretty well so far...
