    "We'll get them in singles"

We'll never know what Collingwood and Nixon are currently telling each other after England've managed to spectacularly cock up an easy chase against Bangladesh. England slipped from 110/4 to 110/6 in the space of a Mohammad Rafique over. Collingwood and Nixon have so far dealt mainly in singles.

Maybe they actually did say what GeoffGeorge Hirst may have told Wilfred Rhodes during the 1902 Ashes test at The Oval.

I think we can let Geoff Hirst off. After all, he did score a hat-trick in the World Cup final.

And England have won now. They are possibly the only team in the world who play worse when they win than when they lose - and they don't play particularly well when they lose.

Hurst, not Hirst. Hurst also played a game for Essex! So he'd be the only first-class cricketer to score a hat-trick in a football World Cup final!

Bangladesh really were never in with a chance after making 143 because England never needed to hit any big shots. Even the wobble towards the end, while being predictable, England wouldn't have been in too much trouble. Collingwood is too smart a cricketer to do something silly! They needed only 30 runs and had 4 wickets in hand. Now if 8 wickets had fallen by then ....

But yes, England's batting has been hopeless throughout the tournament. Oh! And congratulations on beating a test playing nation at a World Cup after eight tries!

Ah damn. George Hirst! Now I get it!
