Sandy Gordon on the Indian team; Atherton on Fletcher & Whatmore

Sandy Gordon, who helped the Indian team out during the 2003 World Cup and the tour to Australia, lashed out at the side for a distinct lack of killer instinct and work ethic. I'm in agreement with most of what he said, except for the bit where he says "This team has not won anything". Yes, India didn't win the World Cup or the series in Australia. But Pakistan was a great leap forward. The fact that the side has regressed in the recent past should not dilute its past achievements.

Sandy Gordon had submitted a report to the BCCI a couple of months ago where he wrote about the lack of a risk-taking culture. Knowing the BCCI, that report is just acting as a paperweight in Ranbir Singh Mahendra's office.

Meanwhile the Kiwis are now ready to adopt John Wright as one of their own, now that he has escaped from the BCCI.

Mike Atherton sees some irony in the forthcoming England-Bangladesh series: Whatmore was apparently the favourite for the England job before Fletcher pipped him.
