David Shepherd to retire in July

After his announcement a couple of months ago that he was umpiring 'Down Under' for the last time, it is now certain that David Shepherd will be retiring after umpiring a one-dayer, fittingly enough, between England and Australia on 12/July.

The connection between the Battle of Trafalgar, the bicentenary of which is being celebrated this year, and David Shepherd is that he keeps hopping when the score is on a nelson. Britan won the battle under Lord Admiral Nelson. The jury is still out on why a triplet number, especially 111, is linked to Admiral Nelson and why it is unlucky. Readers may perhaps enlighten the rest of us.

David Shepherd's interviews with Cricinfo and BBC Sport.

I have heard that its got to do with the fact that Nelson had only one arm, one leg and one eye or something like that!
