Botham's beef, Gooch's tactics and why not to sledge

Botham's support for Kevin Pietersen, or 'PK', as Warne revealed in his column, has been apparent since Pietersen's sensational efforts in South Africa. Now he has gone a few steps further and questioned England's decision to leave out Pietersen from the squad for the first test against Bangladesh.

John Stern wonders about Botham's rant and concludes that Pietersen's one-day form in South Africa could not obviously guarantee him a spot in a test side. Bell's form this season was far better than any other contender's and that grabbed him a place.

Graham Gooch feels that Pietersen must be picked for the Ashes at least. He isn't too worried about the fact that England's batsmen haven't been making runs in the domestic season so far.

Ivo Tennant, who has authored a few biographies, writes about the increasing influence of sledging in all forms of cricket. Does that include book cricket as well? Sample Warne & Chris Adams and the various misdeeds of other Aussies.
