    Thankless Indian cricket fans

For once, I have to agree with Kapil Dev for backing Ganguly. Instead of posting letters to him, creating online petitions and booing him, all of us would do a lot better if we minded our own business and gave Ganguly some more time as he is, after-all, the reason for all our high expectations. Of course, as fans, everyone can have their own opinions. At the same time we should not forget the past and mock him with jokes for his poor string of scores. Its absolutely ungrateful as Arunava Sinha points out.

I'm not sure I agree entirely with the article.
Ganguly has taught the team to stay true, play hard and therefore win more consistently, but he will be the first to admit that India cannot play a Test match with 5 batsmen. He hasn't looked comfortable at the wicket for a long, long time now, and that's the worrying factor.
And it is a little specious to compare Ganguly with Ponting. Regardless of personal form, and usually because of it, Australia win close to 70% of the games they play. In spite of Ganguly, India is at about 50%.
He can buy time, and I'm sure everyone will be more forgiving, if India keeps winning. Had India won at B'lore, the debate about his place in the side wouldn't have been as strong.
I think the ODI series against Pak, and the set of games against SL should decide it, one way or the other. He needs to win, or he needs to bat well. Ideally, he will do both.
But it will be the ultimate tribute to the Ganguly-Wright legacy if the team can show the same hunger/aggressiveness/focus without them at the helm.

Great article. I've done something similar on my blog here (http://worma.blogspot.com) mainly on the short-sighedness/prone-to-hype-ness/hypocrisy etc etc of Indian media, and the gullibility of the fans. In the past few days, even my 'rational indian supporter' friends have been taken for a ride by this 'ganguly should go' hype !!! There are worse captains out there....and worse batsmen as well !!! check out :-)
