Brett Lee wants to play for New South Wales in Pura Cup final

Brett Lee, who is likely to be left out again since Australia's selectors are famous for not tinkering too much with a winning combination, desperately wants to play for his state in the Pura Cup final starting Friday. He plans to check with skipper Ponting and coach Buchanan on whether he will be required at all and if not, dash off to the Gabba but he will definitely not arrive when the game starts. I suppose if Lee is selected and Kasprowicz is left out, he would want to do something similar.

Some of the heroes of Queensland's first ever Sheffield Shield win a decade ago relive the sensation. Incidentally Kasprowicz was 12th man in that game, a fate unlikely to befall Lee.

Michael Bevan, who still harbours hopes of a one-day side recall after being left out from the contracts list last year, was named Pura Cup player of the year.
