Brett Lee likely to miss Pura Cup final and the New Zealand test

With John Buchanan, Ricky Ponting and the Australian selectors not in favour of letting Brett Lee go before the test starts, to cover for the event of a last-minute injury to one of the pacemen, it seems very likely that Lee will be caught in no-man's land. As the Hindi saying goes: "Dhobi ka kuttha, na ghar ka, na ghaat ka" (The washerman's dog belongs neither to the house nor to the river bank)!

Several New South Wales players, current and past, have also disagreed with the possibility of bringing in Lee from the second day of the game onwards, pointing out the fact that if NSW end up bowling first, they could be chasing leather all day minus one key bowler. In addition, the fact that NSW have got to the final without the help of Lee and McGrath would mean that if Lee was picked just for the final, it could have a demoralizing effect on the likes of Nicholson, Clark and Bracken, who have taken lots of wickets this season.
