Breaking/Brief news

    January 03, 2005

Trevor Hohns, the current chairman of selectors for Australia, was a handy leg-spinning all-rounder during his playing days. So you'd expect him to bowl a few googlies. One of them was when he announced last week that Brett Lee was not being considered good enough to even be Australia's 12th man. He said, "We felt it was unlikely Brett would be selected to play in Sydney, as the three fast bowlers currently in the XI are doing a very good job."

Australia's bowlers for Sydney then turned out to be McGrath, Gillespie, Warne, MacGill and Watson. In spite of the fact that Warne bowled a couple of tripey bouncers to the tailenders which were promptly smashed away, he doesnt quite qualify as one of the three fast bowlers who were retained from the side which played the first couple of tests.
