Ricky Ponting, who had a hundredless 2004, started 2005 with a stroke-filled ton as Pakistan continued to suffer in the series. Earlier Pakistan had collapsed to 304 after being 209 for 2, with Salman Butt getting his maiden Test hundred. The usual discard MacGill made the most of the rare chance that came his way and grabbed 5 wickets with Warne picking just one.
