    South Africa level the series

South Africa won the Cape Town test by 196 runs and drew level with England 1-1. There are two more tests to go. England narrowly failed to break the world record.

Overnight batsman Thorpe was dismissed early on after which wicket-keeper Jones and England's newest all-rounder got together for a 60 run partnership. They were both dismissed within a couple of overs of each other and that effectively snuffed out England's challenge. Ashley Giles was however dismissed 75 runs short of his first test century. However Simon Jones and Steve Harmison put on nearly 50 runs for the final wicket with Harmison's 42 making him the top-scorer of the innings, only the seventh time the #11 had top scored in an innings. Nicky Boje and Shaun Pollock were the best bowlers, with four wickets each.

The caravan moves ahead to Johannesburg for the fourth test beginning next Thursday.
