Breaking/Brief news

    December 09, 2004

Ricky Ponting nearly nearly dug a hole for his team during yesterday's win against New Zealand when he kept had Lehmann and Hogg bowl a couple of overs of spin to speed up the over-rate. New Zealand hit 26 runs in two overs and were back in the [ultimately elusive] hunt. Australia bowled 47.1 overs in 219 minutes. New Zealand bowled 50 overs in 228 minutes. Both teams were effectively two overs behind the normal 15 overs per hour overrate. Yet no action was taken, in much the same manner as South Africa got away with a ridiculous over-rate in India recently. Why?
