Sambit Bal finds that a former Indian test player had views similar to those expressed here on the issue of Ganguly being hauled up for a slow over-rate in the game against Pakistan a few weeks ago.

He makes a valid point about South Africa's slow overrate at Kanpur. India played a total of 134.4 overs in 609 minutes. At the rate of 15 overs per hour (i.e. an over every 4 minutes), South Africa should have bowled at least 152 overs (609/4). But they bowled 17 overs less, effectively taking an hour more to bowl their overs. Now why wasnt that acted upon?

In India's first innings in the current Calcutta test, South Africa bowled 150 overs in 650 minutes. They should have bowled 150 overs in 600 minutes, effectively again taking nearly an hour more. Will this be acted upon?
