Breaking/Brief news

India won their first game of the Asia Cup, defeating UAE with time and overs to spare. Pathan and Balaji ripped through the top order and only some late defiance by Mohammad Tauqir delayed the inevitable. However it wasnt all hunky dory at the start. India were in some early trouble in their opening game against the UAE after losing prospective double century maker Sehwag a few runs short of his target as well as Tendulkar and Laxman barely 15 overs into the game. But they recovered thanks to a 90 run stand between Ganguly and Dravid with Dravid scored his first one-day century in over 1 1/2 years, continuing his evolution as a one-day batsman, vindicating yours truly's faith in him over the last 8 years.

In a related incident, Fahad Usman and Asim Saeed came to blows on sharing the US $1000 booty on offer for taking Tendulkar's wicket. Incidentally all eleven UAE players made their one-day debut today. In today's other game, all 11 Hong Kong players had made their ODI debut. Prizes, in the form of credits on these pages, for those who can tell us the last time this happened in a non World Cup ODI.
