Cricket 24x7 - All the cricket

Breaking/Brief news

    May 24, 2004

Ricky Ponting's views seem clearly at odds with the ICC's on expanding cricket's horizons. He's dead right. Before the ICC tries to bring in more nations into test or one-day cricket, it must ensure that the ones competing at present are good enough. Zimbabwe and Bangladesh are not. By going ahead with the one-day series against Zimbabwe, what the ICC is effectively saying is that one-dayers dont matter. That is a far cry from an organization which has a multi-nation one-day championship every two years and isn't ashamed of signing up sponsors who milk one-dayers for all they're worth.
