    The lone voices of dissent

Around a week ago, the ICC sent a note to match referees, umpires, board heads and team captains as part of an effort to clamp down on sledging.

To the best of my knowledge, the only ones to have raised concerns are all Australians: Cricket Australia, Mark Taylor, Stuart Clark, Rodney Hogg, Patrick Smith in 'The Australian' and Greg Baum in 'The Melbourne Age'.

This unanimity of opinion, even as no one else has commented adversely on the ICC's note, leads me to believe that the problem is Australia-centric. Merely having a 'Spirit of Cricket' document which gets enforced in an inconsistent manner does no good to the Australian cricket establishment's image. As the world-beaters and world-leaders, they need to provide the necessary leadership.
