    'Sarde Maan' Dilip Sardesai dead

Dilip Sardesai, who will forever be remembered for his 642 runs in 8 innings in the Caribbean in 1970/71, which played such a huge role in India winning the series, died today, aged 66. Remember, that he was in fact controversially hand-picked by the skipper Ajit Wadekar. He more than repaid the skipper's faith, beginning with a double century, the first by an Indian in an away test.

With Sardesai's death, Indian cricket has lost yet another former great. In the last 6 months, Polly Umrigar and Hanumant Singh have moved on.
