    A distant memory

Having remembered Australia dominating the first day of the last 3 ashes (including the current one), I did some Statsguru to find out the last ashes series when England dominated day one. It wasn't so long ago as I guessed and it turned out to be Edgbaston in 1997 when Caddick & Gough destroyed Australia for a mere 118 runs. England, infact went on to win the Test, inspite of some 2nd innings resistance from Australia. For now, my dear friend Geoff can just keep his fingers crossed until 2008.

Someone at work asked this morning if England were still losing. I tried to explain that technically they weren't, but my colleague didn't believe me. I think they might be right.

Ganesh: Australia were 190 ao on day one last year at Lord's. Admittedly they did have England at 92/7. But 190 ao was a shocker!

Geoff: "were still losing" is present continuous. I think you should reply in the future tense: "will lose".

yes it was a shocker and the 92/7 that followed was definitely what i expected. the unexpected happened a few days later actually - someone stepped on a ball a few mins before the toss!

and what about "will keep losing", jagadish?
