Dean Jones' remark, now on the internet

Listen carefully to the commentary in the video below. After Sangakkara leaves the field, when the camera focusses on the celebrating South African players, just at the end of the first minute of the clip, you can hear Dean Jones say 'The terrorist has got another wicket'.

Yes - very insensative and unfortunate for Deano - an arrogant guy who probably still can't believe this is happening to him, but as one very respected commentator here in Aus has recently said "there but for the grace of God, this could've been any one of us" - we have to keep things a bit real and be careful when judging Dean Jones. It's only different to calling an Englishman a Pommie Bastard, because "Pommie Bastard" is 100 years old and "Terrorist" is so current and topical.

stu - Fair call that, Stu. 'Pommie bastard' is totally different from 'Terrorist', although I suspect Poms dont obviously like being called that anyway!

Yeh - I know it's different but 100 years ago it wasn't. It was probably just as offensive. I'm not really sure what my point is ;-) it's just that I don't think anyone is completely innocent. Dean Jones will probably never work in the industry again and really, that's very harsh. I guess that's the risk, that comes with the reward of a great lifestlye hey?

I think Jones will be forgiven. He's an Aussie, that's more than enough reason for most sub-continental broadcasters/producers to recruit him :)
