Sri Lanka set off in pursuit of tantalizing target

India declared their second innings against Sri Lanka in the Ahmedabad test. Harbhajan and Kumble added 29 more runs in 5 overs, with Atapattu showing mercy on Murali by not giving him an opportunity to have his match figures of 6/218 from 57 overs tarnished further.

Sri Lanka have started their chase. With 509 required from around 172 (or 173) overs at most, they need to score at less than three runs an over. They have got off to the right start, the openers having put on 25 in 7 overs. The asking rate has now come down to 2.91. India's skipper Sehwag chose to give the new ball to Harbhajan, who bowled the second over, perhaps in compensation for denying him the opportunity to score his third half-century, in his 50th test.
