Australia have problems of plenty while New Zealand have plenty of problems

With Matthew Hayden declared fit following concerns over his shoulder injury, Australia are raring to have a go at New Zealand when the test series begins at Christchurch tomorrow. The battle is now between teams ranked 1 and 7 in the ICC table, so the result could be worse than it was when teams ranked 1 and 2 battled it out in the one-day series. The two teams have met so often over the last three months, if familiarity breeds contempt, its showing in the way Australia are demolishing New Zealand contemptuously.

Australia have a problem which they'd be quite happy to face up to: what pace attack to pick. Jeff Thomson is absolutely certain that Kasprowicz must be picked. Skipper Ricky Ponting is very glad that he doesnt have to tell the chap who is being dropped the bad news. Justin Langer is glad that Hayden will play and glad that he isnt a captain or a selector.
