India's squad for first test against Pakistan announced
India's selectors announced on Saturday the squad for the Mohali test against Pakistan. Bizarrely enough, for a match to be played in India, the squad has four seamers and two spinners. Murali Kartik, who was the hero not too long ago is excluded while Nehra and Balaji return to the squad. Yuvraj Singh has been preferred to Mohammad Kaif, presumably in the middle order contradicting earlier attempts at making him open in tests. Dinesh Karthik has been retained as the keeper, in spite of Dhoni's ability with the bat.
Kaif has been placated with the captaincy of the Board President's XI side to play Pakistan in the tour game. Just as well that the issue of who the BCCI's president would be was decided last month. You cant have a team representing a chap whose identity is sub-judice?!
Azharuddin is not too impressed with Kaif's exclusion though and feels that Kaif's confidence will suffer especially since he got a few runs against Australia. Azhar also wants Laxman to bat at #3.
