Symonds powers Australia to a convincing win over Pakistan

Andrew Symonds, after failing to score five times in six innings, did not score a run again yesterday as Australia thrashed Pakistan. Yes, he didnt get a chance to bat, but I'd be willing to wager that he wouldnt have, even if he had batted and the laws been changed in his favour. Greg Chappell thinks that Symonds should take a break from ODIs and return to state level cricket and score ducks there to help him get his focus, mental strength and confidence back.

Michael Clarke scored a superb century after Australia's pacemen ripped out Pakistan's top order. Only Inzamam and Afridi made decent contributions. In reply, Hayden struggled yet again and Ponting's go-slow tactics helped Clarke reach his hundred through a boundary which also brought up Australia's win and sealed a place in the finals. Clarke seems to have Buchanan's backing for a long-term role as opener. But Doug Walters, who Clarke has been compared to in terms of his approach to batting, feels that Clarke must stay at #6 or #7.

Perhaps going slow and helping a teammate make a century doesnt come under the category of selfish batting. Of course, giving Warne so many overs to get to a world record isnt selfish either but Lara making a 400 is.
