Cricket 24x7 - All the cricket

Breaking/Brief news

    November 29, 2004

South Africa played another dull day at Kolkata to start the 2nd Test by scoring 227/5 in 83.3 overs. Though Smith perished early and Hall lived upto my expectations that he wouldn't score another 163 runs in all his opening innings put together, the Indian spinners looked very ordinary inspite of the seamers bowling extremely well. The defensive mindset of the South Africa batsmen added to the Indian woes. All these from South Africa after having taken all the positives from Kanpur. Personally, I feel the entire team should have followed Gibbs & Boje and stayed back at home rather than coming here and play boring cricket. Atleast they should have managed to get Bucknor as one of the umpires to bring in more controversy and thereby more action. I reiterate that there is absolutely NO point in defensive dull batting on day 1 of a Test, especially on a good batting wicket. For all the words that Jennings and Smith have thrown out, one expects a much more result-oriented approach from them after all.
