Breaking/Brief news

    November 25, 2004

Andrew Hall walked away with the Man of the Match award in the Kanpur Test when it should have been Sehwag pretty obviously. Only Sehwag threatened the Proteas and only his batting looked like bringing a result to the game which was very dull otherwise. Yes, Hall scored 163 runs, but he was the one who made the Test a dull one and he was responsible for the result. But I think, ICC/BCCI/whoever should give a pat-on-the-back for those who make games interesting (not necessarily through blitzkrieg batting) and NOT for those who bat out dull draws. Slow and steady batting is appreciable, more when its on day 4 or 5 to save the Test with your doggedness - not when its from the word go with the sole aim of a draw. Because of this, South Africa might claim to have gained positives from Kanpur, but it might all be only to get thumped at Kolkata on a turning wicket.
