Breaking/Brief news

    October 06, 2004

Kumble entered the realms of greatness when he took his 400th test wicket today. His contribution to Indian cricket from the 1990s has always been underplayed. I am fairly sure that he has outlived his expiry date in one-dayers, but he is still an irreplaceable member in the Test side. What I admire most about him is that he keeps pegging away, sticking to doing what he does best - ask the batsmen six different questions in an over. I hope he goes on to get 500 wickets. He is 35 years old and being a spinner, I'd expect him to hang around for 3 more years. I remember he took his 300th wicket around the same time in 2001. So he's taken 100 wickets in 3 years. 500 doesnt seem tough at all!
